1. What is Bharathanatyam ?
Bharathanatyam is a classical dance from India which is predominantly practiced in southern India. Because of its accurate movement and discreet hand gestures, it produces more precise movements. Attention to Geometry and rhythm is very important
2. What is Kathak ?
Kathak is a classical dance from India, more seen in the north India. The emphasis in this style is more on footwork and circles (chakkars). The costumes are more closer to the current style of dressing.
3. How do we differentiate between Bharathanatyam and Kathak ?
Bharathanatyam is clearly defined by its aramandi (half sitting position) in most of its dances, where as Kathak is seen with a standing posture. This will be the biggest difference visible even for a first timer.
4. Can we learn both ?
You can learn both as long as you have time dedicated for practicing and perfecting both the styles.
5. What about Carnatic music ?
This is a classical music style of India mostly performed in South India. This has 72 parent melodies called Raga.
6. How much time is needed to get on the stage ?
Hmmm...... that depends mostly on the student, how much time he/she could spend with the learning. In USA, learning is more oriented towards exhibitionism rather to learn effectively. To keep the market trends, we have developed a system which will keep the students motivated by evolving "Studio shows". These are small scale shows, which parents can see within 6 months. But for performing good you need, any where between 3 years to 10 years. An average Graduation (arangetram ) time would around 6 to 7 years, as long as student is practicing the art on a routine basis and attending the classes regularly.
