Initiated into the world of Laya at the tender age of 6,  Ravishankar underwent rigerous training under such gurus like Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyer and the renouned Mannargudi Sri A. Easwaran under whom he had his arangetram in 1997. Ravi has performed extensively for renouned artists both in India and in the US and recently has been playing a lot for dance concerts too.

Ravi is a graded artist of AIR, Chennai and has won several awards for his wonderful laya accompaniment skills.
