Report on the evening's Concert

Parameshwar Hegdeji started his concert with a composition on Ganesh – Vighana Vinayaka in raag hansadhwani. There was a beautiful alap, which was followed by an elaborate taan. His touching of nishad to taara pancham with grace added beauty to the rag. His taans enhanced the composition’s depth. He added high speed musical phrases frequently making it more fascinating. It was a good experience to see Rag Hansadhwani in such a high creativity. The lyric which was sung with clarity was a pleasure to hear.  The next piece was a Meera Bhajan made into a standard Hindustani item in Madhuvanti. The passionate love of Meera to Krishna was portrayed with sentiments of devotions and humility through his remarkably flexible voice.  The soberness of Madhuvanti raag was kept floating around with an enjoyable musical grace. Vyasamurthy Katti gave ample ornamentation through his small interludes of Madhuvanti.

“Devaki Kanda Mukunda” was more playful with the rendering and Parameshwarji’s enthusiasm in making the playfulness of Krishna with his mother Devaki.  He also sang “nambaru Nechcharu” in tilang and a traditional bandhish - “Bhavani Dayani” in Bhairavi. It was a great concert for all the St.Louis rasikas.
