Profile of Uma Chandramouli

Ms. Umagowri Chandramouli is a veteran vocalist of the ancient South Indian Carnatic style of Music and her evolving style of music has captured several hearts over the years. She has reached over to a large audience through several performances over the last 13  years in India and Tanzania, the two countries where she has resided extensively. Ms. Umagowri has had the rare opportunity to present her repertoire in the audience of Chinnajiyar Swami, a prominent religious leader from India, on the occasion of the grand inauguration of a much-awaited abode of Lord Venkateshwara in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania and received much acclaim for her soulful renditions.

Ms. Umagowri Chandramouli has also organized several music events in honor of the great composers of Indian Carnatic music composers with great success; meeting the objective of kindling a new respect for this great style of music in the hearts of experts and laymen alike. Known for her nurturing nature, she is also a greatly loved ‘Sangeetha Guru’ for many; despite being a disciplinarian.She has inspired several students into appreciating the beauty and relevance of this great form of music. Her virtuosity comes from her faith that there is no end to learning and she has trained under many refined volcalists like Ms. Neeta Chandrashekhar and Ms. Bharati in the city of Hyderabad, India. She currently has the rare privilege of coming under the tutelage of one of India’s most gifted musicians, Ms. Lalgudi Rajalakshmi. Ms. Lalgudi Rajalakshmi is from the famous Lalgudi music lineage of Lalgudi Jayaraman fame and is an exponent of the South Indian style of music in two great instruments, the Violin and the Veena, besides being a gifted teacher. Ms. Umagowri currenly lives in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
