CASTING CALL: Mruchchakatika

 Mruchchakatika is a reputed Indian Classic; it stands on par with “Hamlet” of Shakespeare. This will be enacted in English – Sanskrit / English – Kannada version in Fall as a dance –drama-musical. Highly reputed choreographer Guru Prasanna Kasthuri will direct and choreograph. Well known scholars such as Shathavadani Ganesh (Bangalore, India), music director Tirumale Srinivasan (Bangalore, India) will be a huge part of the prestigious production.

Mruchchakatika is a story filled with elements familiar from western drama, particularly Shakespeare: star-crossed lovers, a hero down on his luck, political intrigue and revolution, a sardonic fool, a dangerous villain, high born hypocrites and noble spirited scamps and an articulate criminal with professional pride.

We are basing our work on the - The Little Clay Cart by Shudraka, translated by Arthur William Ryder (1905) – published by Harvard University and the original Sanskrit work.

We are casting for a series of productions in and around St. Louis area on Sept 9th, Sept 13,14,1, 16; Sept 22, 23. Rehearsals will run through July 15 – Aug 30

We are looking for dancers, singers and actors with flair to speak English and/or Hindi (for Sanskrit poems).

Dancers need to show atleast one minute of movement and singers must sing their selection for 30 - 45 seconds. Actors must present a 30 – 45 seconds of monologue and speak one of our script.
