Wonderful interpretation of heart, joy, intimacy and freedom

I really enjoyed the show on Saturday night. It was a first rate production. The music, the dancers, the costumes and stage effects were superb. It was a wonderful mix of Indian cultural music and dance to visually bring the poetry to life. The one performance that most sticks out in my mind was the Maya Angelou, I know why the caged bird sings. Because I am familiar with the poem, I was really able to relate the dance, the music and stage settings. The performance seemed to capture the essence of the poem. I am sure that the other poems were equally captured in performance but they were less familiar to me. I did enjoy them all, however. I guess to me that is the key to broader appeal, familiarity.

I was most impressed with the presentation Saturday, particularly the interpretation of Maya Angelou’s poem. My 7 and 4 year old nieces were able to sense and better understand the concept of slavery without being overwhelmed. The hard work of everyone involved was quite evident.
