Introduction to Venupuri Srinivas
M.R. Venupuri Srinivas started as a child prodigy, playing Kanjira at a tender age of one year and eight months in Tirupathi. He gave his first concert in All India Radio when he was just three years old. Srinivas learnt Mridangam under legends Ramanathapuram C.S. Murugaboopathi and Trivandrum Mahadeva Iyer. He studied in Madras Music College under Thanjavur Srinivasan obtaining his master degree with distinction and a gold medal. He is an “A” grade artist from the Indian National Radio (All India Radio). He was honored with the respectable asthana vidwan of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam.

Venupuri Srinivas has accompanied all senior artists like M.S. Subbulakshmi, M.L. Vasanthakumari, Madurai Somasundaram, Dr. Balamuralikrishna, Veenai Balachander, T.K. Govinda Rao, Maharajapuram Santhanam, T.N. Seshagopalan, Ravi Kiran, U. Srinivas, Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Hydrabad Brothers, T.N. Krishnan, N. Ramani and many more legends. Srinivas is in fusion group with Louis Banks, Shankar Mahadevan, and Shiva Mani.

He has worked with Maestro Illayaraja. He has travelled all over the world performing concerts. Srinivas plays other percussion instruments like Kanjira, Ghatam, Thavil, tabla, dholak and western instruments. He also recites konnakol.

Srinivas lives in Tampa, Florida and runs an institution called Navarasa Academy of Performing Arts. He has been teaching Mrudangam for more than 10 years in Tampa. Soorya Performing Arts is inviting him to teach to those interested on a fortnightly basis in St. Louis, MO.

Courses available:
1. Introduction to Mrudangam lessons (No prior experience needed)
2. Intermediate level (Should have atleast one year of Mrudangam learning with a qualified teacher)
3. Advance level (Should have atleast 3 years of Mrudangam lessons with a qualified teacher)

Classes will be held weekend in Ballwin area. Each class will be 30 - 60 minutes in duration. Mrudangams are available to rent for initial practices. Fee will range from $30 per session to $60 depending on the time spent. All these lessons are one –on-one lesson. Classes will be held once in fortnight. There are limited seats available. Classes will begin from 2014 - Feb 2nd Week.
